I shall preface this by saying that this book completely blew me away. Just wow.

So in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, we follow this girl named Alice. When the book starts, she is nine years old, stuck with an abusive father. Then, when tragedy hits, she has to move away to go live with her grandmother. As you read, you see Alice growing up, overcoming her fears, and becoming a teenager and, eventually, an adult.

I don’t want to tell you anything else about the story because this is a story that deserves to be read, and I want you to feel intrigued and go read it!! I didn’t even include the synopsis because it says too much, in my opinion 😕 I will, however, tell you about some of the things that are dealt with in this story. Firstly, domestic abuse. It is a core element in this story so you should keep that in mind in case it is a sensitive subject. Secondly, flowers. As the title suggests, flowers are, probably, the most important part of this story. This kept reminding me of my grandma, who spent a lot of her time tending to our garden. I wish I was as good as her with plants 😅 Thirdly, family. I would consider this a family saga since the family aspect is very prominent and thoroughly explored through several generations. Lastly, love. Love is a tragic element throughout the story – but in an incredibly beautiful way.

Additionally, the author was able to throw in some elements that I personally love, but aren’t common in romance novels – folklore, family secrets and literal plot twists!! Whaaaat!? This book has it all, I’m telling you! 👌🏼

This is such a painful read, yet such a beautiful story. Ringland’s writing and her ability to tell stories are so fucking poetic. It’s beautiful. I can’t think of a better adjective, it’s simply beautiful. The way she describes the Australian landscapes, the way she incorporates the flowers and their meaning into the story, the way she wraps things up, everything is just so amazing. I’m at a loss for words to describe this masterpiece. And the symbolism!! Every little thing in this book has meaning and is a symbol of something, and it all makes sense in the end. I don’t know how Ringland does it, I really don’t 😅 The fact that this is a debut novel is mind-boggling…

And don’t even get me started on the characters… I’m so attached to them, they’re all so flawed but so good and I just want everyone to be okay forever… I wish this book never ended 😭 Needless to say, my favorite characters were the dogs… 🐶💕

I think it is safe to say that this is, officially, one of the most beautiful editions on my shelves, if not the most beautiful. Besides the gorgeous cover, we also have gorgeous pages inside, with drawings of different flowers – and, of course, a gorgeous story as well ♡ I was lucky enough to receive a copy from the publisher and, when I saw it, I immediately fell in love and started reading it as soon as I could! 😍 The way this book is set up, it can almost be a guide to Australian flowers – you have drawings of the flowers, descriptions, and some facts about them as well. What more could you ask for? Oh, and it can also be a coloring book!! 🙌🏼
